I don’t know about you, but I think this biker build-off is a day late and a dollar short. Back in the prime of their respective shows on Discovery Channel, everyone was salivating at the idea of these guys squaring off. That being said, I’ll totally watch this!

I’ll go on record to say that I think Jesse James is the far superior builder out of the three, but if this is left up to voting from the viewer audience I don’t think Jesse has a prayer. His public persona is swirling around the bowl and while he still has a core fan base, much of the general public JUST. DOESN’T. LIKE. HIM. And based on the poll that’s on the show’s page, Paul Jr. is smoking him in the popular vote.

Chopper Live: biker build-off between Jesse James, Paul Sr. and Paul Jr

DISCOVERY CHANNEL FAN FAVORITE JESSE JAMES RETURNS TO BATTLE SENIOR AND JUNIOR IN THE ULTIMATE BIKE COMPETITION

Fasten your seatbelt. Paul Teutul Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr. are about to go head to head – or helmet to helmet – as they put their personal issues aside and get down to business this Dec. 5 and 6 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

But it’s not just the Teutuls who will be putting their skills and their ego on the line. Jesse James, who made his television debut on the Discovery Channel, will return to the network for the first time since 2006 to take on the Teutuls. James will be joining father and son in his attempt to prove that one doesn’t need the surname Teutul to win the title of master bike builder. After all, James’ Discovery documentary, Motorcycle Mania, paved the road for the motorcycle revolution that hit television in the years that followed.

Jesse James and the Teutuls previously shared time on the network with their respective shows, but now these combustible characters will share the same stage for the first time. The fierce competition and live results special will test the breaking points of the Teutuls family feud and Jesse James’ notoriously hot temper.

Coming on the heels of American Chopper’s return to Discovery Channel last year, the veteran show will take its success to new levels with its first LIVE event. In this two-night special, Chopper fans will have the opportunity to vote on their favorite bike after seeing the three finished products during our regularly scheduled American Chopper on Monday, Dec. 5, at 9pm ET/PT. The following evening, Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 9:00pm ET/PT, American Chopper Live will air straight from the strip in downtown Las Vegas, NV. What better place than Sin City to crown the winner of this unique bike building competition?

Will Senior’s years of experience give him the edge? Will Junior’s younger outlook lead him to victory? Or will wild card Jesse James wipe the floor with the two of them?

More info about the show can be found at: dsc.discovery.com/tv/american-chopper/chopper-live
Plus, there’s a nifty sweepstakes to enter!

What do you guys think about this 3-way build-off? Who do you think will win?

The other night news broke that Jesse James has officially closed down WCC. While there’s no official notice, it seems people expected this since Mr. James has been selling off mass amounts of his equipment on ebay and mainly lives in Austin, TX these days, where he is part owner of Austin Speed Shop.

West Coast Choppers

West Coast Choppers gained notice with the 2001 shows Motorcycle Mania I and II, on the Discovery Channel. In 2004 James starred with Kid Rock in Motorcycle Mania III. With the release of these shows, interest in Jesse James and the West Coast Choppers allowed James to expand itself into a lifestyle brand.

If you’re still pining after some West Coast Chopper parts, they will still be produced and available to purchase from Custom Chrome, while other parts will be made by Daytec and BDL.

Six years ago, August 30, 2004, Indian Larry was in North Carolina performing his signature motorcycle stunt. One he’d done many times before. You guys know the one I’m taking about. It’s the one where he stands up on the seat of a moving motorcycle and holds his arms out by his side.

But on this day, something went wrong. It was really hot. And speculation is that he was dehydrated and got dizzy while performing his encore. The bike began to wobble while he was standing on it and he lost his balance. He fell off the bike before it crashed, but he hit his head when he fell. He wasn’t wearing a helmet because, well, it’s a showstopper stunt much like a tightrope walker walking without a net.

Indian Larry photo by Tom Zimberoff (Art of the Chopper)

Larry died later that day of head injuries from that accident at the age of 55. Many won’t forget him and his legacy lives on.

but who was Indian Larry?

Indian Larry, a native New Yorker, was a stuntman and a motorcycle builder. In his youth he was heavily inspired by Von Dutch and went out to California to apprentice under hot rod legend, Big Daddy Roth. Surviving a troubled and tumultuous youth, he focused on motorcycle building and founded Gasoline Alley, where he became known for building attention-getting, old school choppers. He is credited for re-popularizing the 60′s style chopper: stripped-down, tall handlebars, foot clutched, jockey shifted, no front brake (or fender), small gas tank, open-piped, kick-start only, stock rake with a single twisted down tube.

Indian Larry's Tiki Bike

He was heavily featured in the resurgence of the popularity bikers were getting on television, showing up in “Motorcycle Mania 2″ with Jesse James and competing in Discovery Channel’s series “Biker Build-Off.” In 2000, he married The Coney Island Mermaid, a.k.a. Bambi. They often performed together: he with motorcycle stunts and the bed of nails, she with snake charming and stripping down to her pasties (among other things, of which you can read at this old article about them on Salon.com).

After his untimely death, Gasoline Alley became known as Indian Larry Legacy, with Paul Cox driving the continued effort to preserve Larry’s memory and style. Cox and team continue to produce cutting-edge custom bikes in honor of Indian Larry as well as a signature clothing line and motorcycle parts.

Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson has officially been “SuckerPunched“. The world’s largest Harley-Davidson dealership and biker’s paradise has partnered with the definitive masters of Old School to create the motorcycle enthusiast’s ultimate destination of choice. SuckerPunch Sallys, the prominent bike-builder notorious for their Old School and no-nonsense style of bikes has taken over part of the renowned dealership’s second floor showroom providing Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson with the largest stock of SuckerPunch Sallys bikes anywhere.

SPS garage

“We’re ecstatic to be partnering up with SuckerPunch Sallys,” explains Shelly Rossmeyer Pepe of Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson. “SuckerPunch Sallys is a prominent brand that produces exceptional bikes and we’re thrilled for them to be a part of the Destination Daytona family.”

Since 1994 Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson has achieved a number of impressive accomplishments including being ranked #1 in new bikes sales, used bike sales, parts and accessories sales and motor clothes sales for Harley Davidson Motor Company. In addition to featuring the largest Harley-Davidson dealership in the world at a massive 109,000 square feet, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson also encompasses 150 acres of biker ecstasy, known as Destination Daytona, that consists of an amphitheatre, restaurants, bars and enormous vending area built specifically for events such as Daytona Bike Week and Biketoberfest.

One of the first appointed SuckerPunch Sallys dealers, the thriving dealership’s recent collaboration with SuckerPunch Sallys not only expands upon its large selection of merchandise but it also effectively positions the dealership for increased sales and notoriety by associating itself with the SuckerPunch brand. Founded in 2002, SuckerPunch Sallys continues to stay true to their traditional biker values by providing the best stripped-down bobbers and choppers at the most reasonable prices. Built on old-school values and a simple business model, the SuckerPunch Sallys brand has quickly evolved into a lifestyle defined by a love for all things quality, classic and vintage.

“Despite our growth, at SuckerPunch Sallys bike building remains at the heart of the company,” explains SPS Director of Sales & Marketing, Paul Devine. “Building quality bikes is what we do and having the opportunity to sell our bikes at a high caliber dealership like Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson is incredible. It’s a win-win situation for everyone involved. We attract a new kind of customer and pull in a whole new demographic to the store.”

This isn’t the first time that these two industry high rollers have collaborated. In 2008 SuckerPunch Sallys announced the launch of the limited edition “Destination Duo” motorcycle, built exclusively for Destination Daytona Equal parts old-school and modern; the Destination Duo bike celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first fully suspended American motorcycle, while still capturing the bold no nonsense style of a true SuckerPunch Sallys one-off. Only fifty limited edition Destination Duo motorcycles were manufactured at that time but a life-long and beneficial relationship was established paving the way for their current collaboration.

SPS's "Destination Duo"

The old school no-nonsense style of bikes that started SuckerPunch Sallys are the bikes they still build today, only now with the convenience of modern manufacturing practices. The Traditional and the 66 Bobber both received industry awards in 2007 and are the two models that the company was founded on. They have the capacity to build 100 bikes a month at their manufacturing facility in Scottsdale, Ariz., including the widely anticipated Swinger. Their model line has been built up to six different models, with the additions of the stealthy Slim and the retro-styled Hot Rod. SuckerPunch Sallys continuously growing dealer network throughout the U.S. showcases the wide variety of bikes they have available, all of which exude SPS style.

TLC reanimates the recently defunct American Chopper by pitting Teutel against Teutel

Ok, so maybe I lied about the zombie part (I was inspired by the book title Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Classic Regency Romance – Now with Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem! Yes, it’s a real book…)

But anyway, TLC is on a tear of late, taking perfectly good shows (like LA Ink) and hyper-dramatizing them with creative editing, a la Jersey Shore or Real Housewives of [insert city here].

So, why settle for creating drama when drama exists freely? Enter Paul Sr. and Paul Jr…

The new show, “American Chopper: Senior vs. Junior,” begins filming next week and will premiere in August. It will center around the original Orange County Choppers shop, which is still run by Paul Sr., and Paul Jr.’s startup shop, Paul Jr. Designs, which is located across from the original OCC shop in Rock Tavern, NY.

the reanimated corpse of Amercian Chopper

Sr. and Jr. haven’t spoken in over a year, ever since Senior fired Junior from the family business. And if you remember, the two have been in a brutal legal battle over…what else? Cash and control. Senior is demanding the return of Junior’s 20 percent stake in OCC.

According to the NY Post, Junior rode out his one-year non-compete clause and moved into his new shop last week. Father and son remain at odds, with no resolution in sight.

“I’m always hopeful for a reconciliation, but sometimes these things happen for a reason,” Junior told The Post. Senior told The Post, “I’m happy he’s making an attempt to go out on his own, but I don’t feel he’s ever really followed through with anything in his life.”

Are you feeling the drama yet? How about the zombies? Think they’ll be any ultra-violent mayhem? Yeah, me neither…

I know all you Buell fans out there have been totally bummed out since the motorcycle company had the plug pulled on them last year. And if you’re a fan of the 1125R, there could be a light at the end of the tunnel for you. Magpul, a firearms accessory manufacturer (oh sorry, they consider themselves “…a design and manufacturing house, not just a gun company”) created a prototype based off of the Buell called the Magpul Ronin.

Magpul Ronin

The prototype was introduced at the SHOT show in Vegas earlier this year. According to their website: “the model 1125R was selected due to its high level of performance and aesthetic potential that were never fully realized by Buell as a subsidiary of Harley Davidson.” Basically they redesigned the outer shell (it looks pretty futuristic, eh?), tinkered with the mechanics a little and lightened the load by 50 lbs.

Currently it is not available for purchase. But one day it very well could be…

If you’d like to learn a lot more about the Magpul Ronin, Hell for Leather magazine wrote an incredibly detailed article about this bike.

The Legendary Buffalo Chip, Black Hills Harley-Davidson and Prugh Design have officially made a commitment to the future of motorcycling. A press conference held on Tuesday, January 26th announced the kick off of the 2K10 Challenge, an in-classroom bike build project, pairing an elite motorcycle builder and exceptional parts with students seeking a future in the motorcycle industry. The finished motorcycle is scheduled to roll out of the shop in less than 16 weeks and is expected to exceed the standards of a world-class, custom bike.

The Legendary Buffalo Chip made the Challenge and other leading area businesses have come together with the staff and students of Western Dakota Technical Institute to get the project underway. The bike build will take place at WDT’s state-of-the-art welding and manufacturing facility under Michael Prugh’s direction and Luke Steinmetz’s classroom supervision. First and second year WDT students will have the opportunity to work on the project, which will put the machining, welding and fabrication skills of these students to the test.

“This bike will definitely have its own personality, as it is being built with the efforts of 25 future technicians,” explains Michael Prugh, the bike’s designer and owner of Prugh Design. “The goals of this project are broader than just the nuts and bolts of a motorcycle. We hope to inspire a new generation of talent.”

Students who are part of the 2K10 Challenge will get the benefit of a real world, real work atmosphere without the costs associated in building a world-class motorcycle. “It’s extraordinary to have this rare combination of business and education coming together on this scale to provide something truly special for our students,” said Luke Steinmetz, WDT’s Welding Manufacturing program lead instructor. “We think our students are up to the challenge and capable of building a world-class motorcycle with the help of top motorcycle businesses.”

a rendering of this years Legends Ride auction bike by Prugh Design

The industry’s top parts manufacturers Custom Chrome, Jaybrake, Performance Machine and Black Hills Harley-Davidson have all graciously donated parts to aid in completion of the build. “The 2K10 Challenge is a way for all of us to come together and give these students a competitive edge by providing the best, high-quality parts in the industry,” said Terry Reimer, general manager of Black Hills Harley-Davidson.” Hot Leather’s, the leader in motorcycle apparel and accessories has also provided the official apparel for the 2k10 Challenge which makes this build more than just a classroom project.

The originator of the 2K10 Challenge, the Legendary Buffalo Chip, will provide WDT students with the ultimate stage to debut the finished bike which will be the highlight of a special live auction in support of the 3rd annual Legends Ride scheduled for Monday, August 9th 2010. Rod Woodruff, owner of the Legendary Buffalo Chip, is thrilled that the Chip’s team created this ground-breaking 2K10 Challenge bike build. “We are proud to have brought Western Dakota Tech together with leading motorcycle industry businesses to promote technical education and the future technicians of the motorcycle industry.”

As Daytona Bike Week 2010 festivities came to a close, the third annual Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse Biker Fusion event is being heralded as the rallies most successful and talked about charity events. The third installment of the prominent gathering, notorious for bringing the industry leaders and enthusiasts together for a great cause, has once again proved that the motorcycle community not only has great bikes but also big hearts. They raised almost $10,000 total, which will be sent to Soldier’s Angels and Post 911 Foundation.

An impressive list of world-class builders, industry elite and media gathered at the Doghouse Bar and Grill on Main Street Daytona to raise funds for Soldiers’ Angels. A volunteer-led non-profit that provides aid and comfort to active servicemen and women of the U.S. military as well as veterans and their families, Soldiers’ Angels go to great lengths to demonstrate care and concern for those who daily fight for our freedom and safety.

Special hosts at this year’s celebration included Major General (retired) USAF, David Scott and Master Sergeant U.S. Army Special Forces, Scott Neil. Bert Baker, of Baker Drivetrain and Bryan Fuller of Fuller Hot Rods were the evening’s emcees, directing the night’s festivities.

A highlight of the evening’s celebration included a presentation of the Special Ops Sidehack built specifically for wounded Special Ops veteran, Romy Camargo. A Special Forces soldier paralyzed by a gunshot wound while serving in Afghanistan, Romy has achieved a number of personal freedoms others take for granted, but one major hurdle remains- once again feeling the wind in his hair from a motorcycle. As a result, Romy’s friend, Special Forces teammate and custom bike builder, Izzy Izquierdo along with three additional Special Forces brothers created a bike/sidecar combination just for Romy. Funds for the bike were raised by the Post 911 Foundation.

Preceeding the event, Romy was accompanied by a large assembly of motorcyclists and a police escort from Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley Davidson Beach Street Daytona store to the Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse amongst the cheers and applause of thousands of bikers there to offer their support to the war hero.

The smile says it all.

The night’s additional festivities included a live auction with proceeds going to Soldiers’ Angels. A number of renowned builders were also on the scene such as Steve Broyles, Paul Wideman, Izzy Izquierdo, Matt Hotch, Cory Ness, Athena Ransom, Bryan Fuller, Kyle Shorey and Matt Olsen. The night’s revelry was all set amidst artwork in the Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse by Mike Lichter, Sara Liberte, Paul Cox, Peter Grant, Jeff Cochran and Buck Wild.

Sponsors for this year’s event included the Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse, Hot Leathers, Bare Knuckle Choppers, R&R Promotions, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Destination Daytona, Spectro Oil, Baker Drivetrain, K&G Cycles, Rise Above Consulting, Limpnickielot.com, Intrepid Powerboats, Keyboard Motorcycle Shipping.com, and Lefty Brothers Cycles.

A good time with a purpose, this year’s Biker Fusion event proved to be a celebration of compassion and philanthropy amongst the motorcycle industry. Seminole Hard Rock Roadhouse’s Biker Fusion has quickly become an industry staple and will continue raising support for our troops for years to come.

Daytona’s 69th Annual Bike Week is just around the corner and SuckerPunch Sally’s is gearing up for an impressive showing at the legendary ten day event. Anticipating more than 500,000 bikers making the annual trek to sunny Florida, Daytona Bike Week festivities include motorcycle racing, concerts, parties and Sucker Punch Sally’s.

The predominant masters of old school will be at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson located at Destination Daytona. Notorious for having the largest selection of SuckerPunch Sally’s motorcycles in the country, rally-goers will definitely want to stop by Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson to browse their unbeatable selection. Also on hand will be a number of SuckerPunch Sally’s employees to help customers select the SPS Old School Chopper that best accommodates their style.

Suckerpunch Sally's bobber

In addition, SuckerPunch Sally’s along with Progressive Insurance will be making an appearance during the final leg of the 2009-2010 International Motorcycle Show Tour at the Ocean Center Daytona Beach. In November, SPS and Progressive Insurance kicked off their 11 city IMS Tour. Highlights of this year’s show circuit included a one-of-a-kind 50-foot trailer, two new giveaway bikes and a booth complete with lounge atmosphere where bikers had the opportunity to relax, enjoy the bikes and learn more about SuckerPunch Sally’s and Progressive Insurance.

During Daytona Beach Bike Week the custom motorcycle manufacturer will also be on hand at Willie’s Tattoo Old School Chopper Show on Thursday, March 4. Located at Willie’s Tropical Tattoo Inc in Ormond Beach, SPS will crown the best of show winner and present them with an SPS roller to take home.

After six years of bickering, American Chopper is finally going off the air

Back in 2003 was the television hey-day for motorcycle fans. Discovery Channel was the place for gearheads to get their fix with shows like Monster Garage, Biker Build-Off and American Chopper. As we all know American Chopper was a reality show chronicling the life of the Teutuls and Orange County Choppers. In the beginning the novelty of the show was how crazy it was to see Paul Sr. & Jr.’s on air bickering, while Mikey offered up the crazy comic relief. Oh yeah, and there were some of the visionary custom bikes dreamed up by Paul Jr.

Paul Teutul Sr. of OCC

The arguments between Senior and Junior were funny and fodder for watercooler discussions. The bikes were interesting and watching the process of building those bikes intriguing. And there was Vinnie, Paulie’s right hand man who was often caught in the middle of the fights when all he wanted to do was build bikes. And Cody, who was taken under the OCC wing until he and Vinnie jumped ship to form V-Force Customs.

Speaking for myself, I probably watched the first two seasons until the show began to get formulaic. There was more focus on the crazy rantings between Paul and Paulie and less on the bikes, which then only became theme bikes for various corporations. Oh and the occasional yuk yuk’s from Mikey, who couldn’t build bikes and couldn’t ride them for a while either. As their bank accounts grew fat so did the ego’s. That’s when I jumped ship. And it seemed that I wasn’t the only one. The backlash began as the arguments became boring, the show switched channels, Paul Jr. left the company and Mikey ended up in rehab. And now Paul Sr. is suing Junior for control over the OCC empire. Yikes.

But as they say, all good things must come to an end. Even if it’s about 3 years too late. The series finale will air on TLC Thursday, February 11th at 9 PM. Somehow I don’t predict a happy ending. What do you think?

Motorcycle Authors Ed Milich and Photographer Christina Shook embark on week long Northern California book tour.

What do you do in January when it’s too wet or chilly to ride your motorcycle? How about heading out for a night of motorcycle related literature and photography? Christina Shook and Ed Milich will be touring motorcycle destinations in San Francisco and northern California beginning January 26 2010 to promote their recently released motorcycle books: Milich’s “Wrenched: Man and Machine” and Shook’s “Chicks on Bikes“. Milich recently completed a 10-day West Coast book tour in December of 2009 with Mark Gardiner (Roadracer X, Classic Bike), author of Riding Man. Shook shared the Werkstatt SF tour stop with Gardiner and Milich, and the idea for January’s “Wrenched Words and Chick Pics” Tour was born.

Christina Shook is a San Francisco East Bay based professional photographer. “Chicks On Bikes“, Shook’s first book, compiles her photographs of and writings on female motorcyclists drawn largely from the San Francisco Bay Area’s diverse population of female riders. The book depicts female racers, commuters, cruisers, and mechanics in their natural environments from San Fransicso’s streets to dirt bike trails, to the racetrack. The hard bound “Chicks On Bikes” is 154 pages and is $24.99 from chicksonbike.us.

SPS to build two new giveaway bikes including “Flo’s Flyer,” SPS’s submission to Artistry in Iron

Sucker Punch Sally’s, the premier old school motorcycle builder known for producing the best stripped-down bobbers and choppers, is continuing its partnership with Progressive Insurance, the country’s number-one motorcycle insurer.

Highlights of last year’s partnership included building two Progressive Insurance bikes; designing a co-branded giveaway t-shirt; designing a 28-foot trailer featuring both Progressive and SPS; and appearing together at all 11 IMS Cycle World Motorcycle Shows. Sucker Punch Sally’s owner Christian Clayton also appeared in a print ad with Flo from the Progressive commercials.

Next year will feature an even bigger, 50-foot trailer showcasing the Sucker Punch style and Progressive. The trailer, along with two new giveaway bikes, will be the centerpiece of the Progressive Insurance booth at the 11 IMS shows across the country. While the booth will be twice as big as last year’s, it will still have a lounge atmosphere where bikers can relax, enjoy the bikes, and learn about SPS and Progressive.

Flo’s Flyer, one of the Progressive custom bikes built by Sucker Punch Sally’s, will be featured wherever Sucker Punch Sally’s is set up. A one-off boardtrack style motorcycle that’s completely hand made at SPS’s Arizona headquarters, Flo’s Flyer will be SPS’s submission to Artistry in Iron.

“We have a great partnership with Progressive Insurance and are excited about continuing and expanding our role with the #1 motorcycle insurer in the U.S.A.” said Christian Clayton, owner of Sucker Punch Sally’s.

Founded in 2002, Sucker Punch Sally’s continues to stay true to their traditional biker values by providing the best stripped-down bobbers and choppers at the most reasonable prices. The old school no-nonsense style of bikes that started Sucker Punch Sally’s are the bikes they still build today, only now with the convenience of modern manufacturing practices. Sucker Punch Sally’s continuously growing dealer network throughout the U.S. showcases the wide variety of bikes they have available, all of which exude SPS style.

The ongoing saga of Billy Lane, one of the most talented motorcycle builders of our generation has reached a new stage as he was sentenced to 6 years in the slammer with a 3 year probation to follow and a lifetime loss of license today.

Billy Lane by Forrest Frazier

I try not to delve too much into other peoples misfortunes but the facts are quite clear. Lane, 39, faced up to nine years in prison after a judge in June OK’d a plea deal in which prosecutors agreed to drop a charge of DUI manslaughter due to a Sept. 4, 2006, crash that left fellow biker Gerald Morelock dead.

Police said Lane’s blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit when he crossed a double-yellow line to speed at 68 mph past three cars on State Road A1A south of Melbourne Beach. He crashed his Dodge pickup head on into 56-year-old Morelock’s small Yamaha motorcycle.

Today Billy’s lawyer plead his case focusing on the positive aspects of Billy’s life and the public service he has done with children, the military, and local organizations. He emphasized the good that Billy can do and has done and his ability to reach out to the younger generation.

Billy spoke to the judge taking responsibility for his actions and got quite emotional regarding the killing of Gerry Morelock. He was surrounded by other bike builders and notable members of the motorcycle business. The support for him from his peers as-well-as the members of Mr. Morelock’s family with whom he has built up a relationship was truly touching. However, in the end the fact remained that one man lost his life because of the lapse of judgment of another man.

I understand that other people have been in similar situations. A few months ago I lost a relative who was riding his motorcycle because someone ran him over. These tragedies hit our community all too often. Please keep this in mind next time you are in your cage and are driving distracted (read: drunk, on the cell, yelling at your kids, texting) and try to be more aware of cagers, or other potential hazards when you are on your bike.

I don’t want to hear about you being in jail or winding up dead, you are all to important to me.

Wow, I some how lost track the calendar and this sort of snuck up on me. Bike week in Laconia, NH is almost upon us, happening June 13th-21st this year. For the majority of the country I would imagine this particular motorcycle rally is barely a blip on their radar, but for us New England riders it’s a milestone event for the summer.

Sure, our New England weather is typically true to form and is as unpredictable as ever during this week, 90 degree temperatures one day or cold and rainy the next. Actually, inevitably is almost always rains one of the weekends! But that’s part of the fun!

This year the Broken Spoke Saloon in Laconia is stepping up their game a little bit with an East Coast vs. West Coast biker build-off between Paul Cox and Chica (which should be really interesting) and Boston’s very own, multi-singer-kick-ass band, Bang Camaro, will be rocking everyone’s world the very first night.

So, who’s going this year? Sound off!

Recent press release:

The signature old-school styling of custom motorcycle manufacturer Sucker Punch Sally’s (SPS) has once again caught the eye of motorcycle industry outsiders. SPS announced it will team up with premium cigar manufacturer CAO to produce a one-off bike that will make its way into one lucky winner’s garage.

SPS’s CAO-inspired custom will feature the quality craftsmanship, modern components and old-school aesthetic SPS is known for while incorporating details unique to the CAO brand. Named “Lady Liberty,” this bobber-style swinger will carry the mantra “Free To Ride–Free To Smoke” and will be hand-painted by SPS’s renowned in-house artist Sara Ray inspired by the CAO Cigar brand.

“CAO is the top of the line when it comes to cigar manufacturers, and their product creation process is very similar to ours,” said SPS President Christian Clayton. “They understand that the smallest details truly make a product, and we’re excited to see these ideals come to life in the Lady Liberty build.”

SPS and CAO fans will soon be able to watch the build in progress online or see the bike in person as it makes its way across the United States throughout the latter part of 2009. The bike will be on display at 100 retail tobacconists and numerous bike rallies before it is given away to a randomly selected winner during a party at the CAO headquarters in Spring 2010.

Sucker Punch Sally’s is a custom motorcycle manufacturer specializing in old school, stripped-down motorcycles. Heading into 2009, their Swinger was selected at production custom of the year by Cycle Source Magazine, they also received awards for their ’66 Bobber and Traditional Bobber. All of these facts solidify SPS’s position at the top of the production motorcycle market. Recently Sucker Punch Sally’s is the official motorcycle of Progressive Insurance and has also made alliances with Fender Guitars and The Legendary Buffalo Chip. Their bikes have been featured in all the top motorcycle magazines. Sucker Punch Sally’s is the place to go if you’re looking for a totally custom, old school chopper, or just a reasonably priced production bike. Look for a dealer near you or for more information, visit Sucker Punch Sally’s on the Web at www.suckerpunchsallys.com or call them at (480) 778-9500.

CAO International, Inc. is the producer of one of the country’s top lines of premium cigars. Founded by Cano A. Ozgener in Nashville as a labor of love 41 years ago, today CAO products can be found on every continent in the world with the exception of Antarctica. CAO produces 11 cigar lines that have all been rated ’90′ (“OUTSTANDING”) or above by Cigar Aficionado and Cigar Insider.

Well, the three hour finale of Celebrity Apprentice wrapped up last night and anyone who watched knows that Jesse James was fired last week after making it to the final four and that Joan Rivers actually won it all.

Jesse was there in person for the finale, had a minor verbal exchange with Dennis Rodman about being an alcoholic and threw his hat in Annie Duke’s corner.

Someone in Jesse’s camp posted this picture on MySpace and I couldn’t resist sharing this pic of Jesse and Trump throwing up the horns.

Trump and the Dead Man

It was fun while it lasted and I’ll have to endure a few empty weeks without my Jesse James fix until “Jesse James is a Dead Man” hits Spike at the end of the month. But until then, I just found this info on Spike.com:

On Tuesday May 12th at 8 ET/ 5 PT Spike.com gets taken over by Jesse James as he attempts an impossible stunt, live for the world to see. Jesse will ride a high-powered “Nitro Bike” which can reach a speed of over 200 MPH down a runway. Sounds easy right? Well, this motorcycle will be strapped with two military-grade bazookas on each side and at the end of the runway will be a brick wall. The challenge: ride the bike down the runway, fire both bazookas, and safely continue through the disintegrated wall. Will Jesse survive or will he be a Dead Man? Tune in to Deadman.Spike.com to find out.

The National unveiling of the “DSC SHOCKER” will take place at the Broken Spoke Saloon – May 8th @ 7:30

About Deep South Choppers

Deep South Choppers started building custom motorcycles in 2004, and have been established among the leading bike builders in the country. With ongoing print and media attention, and the accumulation of satisfied customers, Gary Rutherford (a personal friend of Bert Baker owner of Baker Transmission) approached Dennis and Brad to build a custom show-bike that would highlight the new Baker Torque Box Transmission. This custom build for Gary named the Red Alligator, has received national media attention and has been on display in the Baker Transmission booth at many national bike shows. But even though DSC had a great business following as leading custom bike builders, the guys at DSC always had the dream of manufacturing and promoting their own brand and official line of motorcycles. Now in 2009, the first official DSC line (the DSC SHOCKER) the bobber with a twist, is on the ground and rolling. The SHOCKER is available in two models, High Voltage and Low Voltage.

DSC SHOCKER

Deep South Choppers introduces its first model as a manufacture – the “DSC Shocker”. For the builders and owners of DSC, this is where old school, meets new school.

The “DSC Shocker”, is a bobber with a twist. The rear of this DSC bobber has Carrera racing shocks. This provides the customer with a comfortable ride while not having to surrender the ultimate old school appeal. The “DSC SHOCKER” is available in two models. The High Voltage, which features mini ape hanger bars and the Low Voltage, which feature hot-rod drag bars.

DSC Shocker

Both models are manufactured with proprietary parts from DSC. The frame, bars, battery box, fuel tank and license plate bracket are all exclusive designs of Deep South Choppers. In addition, Dennis and Brad Mannino also chose high quality components such as a Harley Davision 80 inch engine for reliability and durability in conjunction with a Baker 5 speed transmission.

The “DSC Shocker” is making its mark in the Bobber class of motorcycles. DSC Customers receive a high quality custom production bike at a sensible price.. Low Voltage MSRP $ 19,900 – High Voltage MSRP $ 20,500. Deep South Choppers is currently taking orders for the “DSC SHOCKER”.
