Sons of Anarchy season 4 news: playing catch up

It’s true, blog friends: I’ve been so busy enjoying my summer that I have been incredibly lax with keeping you updated on all the Sons of Anarchy season 4 news that’s being filtered out. And for that I am sorry. I will make it up to you. Right now.

Now for some of you more hardcore SOA fans some of this news is not new to you. It’s been a while so cut me some slack. For everyone else: I hope you’ve got your reading glasses on because this post is jammed packed with SOA news!

Sons of Anarchy returns September 6th with a special 90 minute premier episode

Sure, Charlie Hunnam cut his hair short, but you’ll forget all about it when the 90 minute season premier airs. Or until the first scene of the season that shows his naked butt.

SOA season 3 DVD will be released August 30th

As I’ve recently learned, a tv show’s budget to produce a DVD set is taken from the following season’s budget. That’s why DVDs typically come out a week or so before the new season of that show is set to air. It’s no different here. The Sons of Anarchy season 3 DVD set will be released on August 30th, just a week before the big season 4 premier and it is available for pre-order on amazon.com right now.

But I have faith that you guys can plow through an entire season on DVD in a week.

Season 4 casting news

Danny Trejo

Back in May we found out that Danny Trejo will join the SOA cast playing Romero “Romeo” Parada, a charismatic and dangerous former commando for the Mexican military who becomes a new associate of the club.

David Hasselhoff

In a brilliant display of stunt casting, David Hasselhoff will play a John Holmes-esque, ex-porn star named Dondo, who has quit his “acting” career to focus on producing of girl-on-girl adult films.

Debi Mazar

Debi Mazar (Entourage) will appear this fall as SAMCRO’s parole officer. Wonder if they’ll play up her NY background, she won’t take any crap and will whip those boys into shape.

Rockmond Dunbar

There’s a new sheriff in town (sorry, I had to)! In the wake of Hale’s untimely death and Unser handing in his badge, new sheriff, Eli Roosevelt played by Rockmond Dunbar is taking over. Roosevelt will be a strict enforcer, barring SAMCRO from even wearing their colors in town.

LaMonica Garrett

And along with a new sheriff there’s also a new deputy sheriff: LaMonica Garrett will portray Deputy Sheriff Cane.

Ray McKinnon

Another Deadwood alumi joins the cast this season. Ray McKinnon, best known for portraying Reverend Smith on Deadwood, shows up as a prosecutor described by the network as “an independent thinker and somewhat odd.”

Sons of ANarchy season 4 spoilers/news

If you don’t want to know, then don’t read this part!!

Kurt Sutter blogged an overview of what to expect from Season 4:
So far, the new season feels very potent. We’re back in Charming, we’re out of jail and we’re making money,” he wrote. “With that upswing, comes all the complications that success and power bring. Season four is all about the club. The personalities, the history, the alliances, the conflicts—the inside dynamics of an organized outlaw enterprise. Ego, greed, violence and fear reign supreme. I’m halfway through the cut of 401 and it’s pretty fucking badass.”

Sutter also considers the season ahead to be “act 2″ of the ongoing mythology. He told EW, “It’s a continuation of the mythology. A lot of what happens this season is a direct result narratively and emotionally of what happened in Ireland in season 3 and how that bounces off of Jax, Gemma and Clay. If we’re looking at this show as being 6 or 7 seasons, I’d say we’re coming into Act 2 here, in terms of setting up, emotionally, the bigger arc of the series in terms of where it all might go. I think we get a taste of that this season — where it’s going to go.”

The first five episode titles are:

  • Out
  • Booster
  • Dorylus
  • Una Venta
  • Brick

Jax and Tara: “[The beginning of the season is] really about both of them figuring out what’s going to happen and making a decision about what’s going to happen,” Sutter says. “I think it’ll be about how one foot out the door, one foot in, doesn’t work anymore. I think this season, a lot of that fluctuation will come to a head and a decision will have to be made.”

SAMCRO vs SAMTAZ: There will be tension between the Charming and Tucson charters this season. Clay and his counterpart are not friends, but Jax and his counterpart do get along. But the club’s Tucson charter will not be their biggest problem. “To a certain extent, the greatest foe the club will have is the club,” Kurt Sutter told EW. “It’s about the internal foes, which I think are much worse than the external foes this season.”

EW also reported that Clay’s hand troubles are as bad as ever when we return.
And looks like we’ll see more of Otto this season as well, as Kurt Sutter is in full Otto attire during WTF Sutter #4.

EW.com first reported that Opie and Lyla are getting hitched. (Ha, Lyla’s wearing white. Hilarious.) The wedding will happen during the season premiere. Despite the happy union, we already know that Lyla has a huge secret. Winter Ave Zoli (Lyla) told Entertainment Weekly ”Last season Lyla had an abortion without telling Opie, so now it’s on her conscience.”

KS tweeted: “404 (episode 4) has the most awesome SOA EXPLOSION ever. you know my motto, “when in doubt, blow it the fuck up!”

SOA app update

The app update seems to be running a little behind schedule but it is in the works. Info via Twitter: “1ST ADDITIONAL CONTENT SCENE “PAYPHONE” COMING 2 IPHONE & ANDROID IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS.” So it’s looking like the updated app will be out at end of July, early August.

Misc news

SOA represented again at this year’s Comic-Con. Kurt Sutter, Katey Sagal, Ron Perlman were there yesterday in the afternoon to do a signing, press and a panel. Also, look for a special WTF Sutter filmed at Comic-Con on the SOA/SutterInk Youtube Channel. (photos liberated from @SAMCRO_blogger)
