Sons of Anarchy: season 4 production begins

Things are ramping up in the world of Sons of Anarchy! Pre-production started this week and actual shooting begins on Monday. I feel like it’s Christmas!

So where did we leave off?

If you haven’t finished watching season 3 yet: STOP READING. Move on to the casting section.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Season 3 ended with SAMCRO headed off to a stint in jail after an elaborate plan was successfully pulled off by Jax. Abel is home safe. Agent Stahl is dead at Opie’s hand. Jimmy O is dead, dispatched by Chibs. Tara is knocked up. Opie & Lyla are engaged. Unser turned in his badge. John Teller’s ghost is still looming heavily (“The King is gone, but not forgotten”).

When season 4 begins, 14 months will have passed since the boys went off to the pokey. The boys are out presumably on parole. Based on some production photos that have emerged this week, Charlie Hunnam (Jax) got a haircut (don’t cry, ladies, it’s only hair. It’ll grown back.), Theo Rossi (Juice) let his hair grown in a little and Katey Sagal is still super hot.

Sons of Anarchy casting news

A week ago we found out that Mexican badass, Danny Trejo, will be featured in the upcoming season.

TVLine reported that Trejo will play Romero “Romeo” Parada, a charismatic and dangerous former commando for the Mexican military who becomes a new associate of the club.

Trejo’s past acting credits include “From Dusk Til Dawn“, “Desperado“, “House of 1000 Corpses” and the awesome “Machete.”

Season 4 exclusive content, iPhone app and a big social media push

YouTube channel: A few weeks ago Kurt Sutter/FX Digital launched the Sutterink/Sons of Anarchy YouTube channel where Mr. Sutter will host his own weekly updates (WTFSutter in particular), behind the scene footage from the upcoming season and additional scenes not included in the actual show. “the plan right now, to release the additional content scenes on SOA app first, then later, on the FX website, then my blog & youtube channel” tweeted Sutter.

Phone apps: Last season SOA flirted with new media when they released the iPhone app (and disgruntled a LOT of non-iPhone users) that complemented the lore of season 3. The iPhone app will begin to see updates as early as July and it sounds like the updated app will be available for Android users in July as well.

Take a peek at the SOA iPhone app tour I put together of the first release from last year.

Twitter:
Anyone who uses Twitter knows that Kurt Sutter (@sutterink) is a prolific, and sometimes abrasive, user. (Anyone catch this uncomfortable exchange between Mr. Sutter and Jesse James (@freejessejames) last week? *BOOM* This was like two worlds colliding for me since I am still somewhat a fan of Jesse, despite his personal short comings, and I deeply admire Mr. Sutter).

Sutter is now considered a “celebrity show runner” because he is so accessible to his fans. At the time of this post he has hit 30,847 followers. He’s great at teasing with just enough info that leaves diehard fans salivating for more and he’s just a really funny guy in general. (Also, don’t forget to check out his blog at SutterInk.blogspot.com).

Plus, he tweets out some great on set photos. Like this one:

Another person you might consider following is Dominic Pagone (@Dom_Pagone), who does publicity for FX. He’s been tweeting out quite a few photos from the set this week. They can all be viewed at the Sons of Anarchy Facebook page as well. He also alerted fans of these photos that are featured on NY Magazine (Photos by: James Minchin III for New York Magazine).

Re-watch previous seasons of Sons of Anarchy

While the season 3 DVDs haven’t been released yet (rumor is that this will happen sometime in August) you can still catch the show in different ways.

Last weekend FX began showing the show in the late night hours (11PM-2 AM) from the very beginning and will continue to do so until the premier of season 4.

Season 3 is available for download on iTunes (but it ain’t cheap). There are several sites that stream the episodes for free, but I don’t know from experience what sites are good.

Or you can go back and read all of Rippin-Kitten’s extensive SOA coverage including last year’s set visit and tour from Kurt Sutter.

Season 4 will premier sometime in September.

Hey, darlin’! Another great blog on #SOA as always! Very informative.

Right now, Hulu is not running any of the eps, just trailers and clips, same for FX.

Which sux, as the cat barfed in the DVR, fried the drive, and I lost what part of S3 I didn’t aleady burn for research. >< The cat is still alive.

Yah, I caught the feud. That's Sutter for ya, he's direct, outspoken, and can hold his own.

    Thanks for a great read!

How come there are photos of her from the season 4 shoot yet IMDB does not have Maggie Siff listed beyond the last episode or the year 2010 for SONS?

Does she miss the first few episodes, and if so- why?
