couple things to look for in Sturgis

Like a lot of other people I know out there, I will not be in attendance at Sturgis this year. Every year I have good intentions of getting my butt out there but something trivial like…money gets in the way! But to any of you who ARE lucky enough to get there, here’s some informational press releases that may interest you.

Burnouts are King Friday Night at the Legendary Buffalo Chip

Friday night is burnout night at the Chip and you won’t want to miss this one. The Legendary Buffalo Chip is holding its Second Annual Baker Burnout Drags Competition, followed by an audience participation group burnout on Friday, August 7 during the Sturgis Rally. The competition is a raw execution of power, precision and skill is guaranteed to get your motor running.

The high octane, tournament-style Baker Burnout Drags Competition brought to you by Baker Drivetrain and the Legendary Buffalo Chip will come to a head during Friday night’s entertainment line-up. Between world-renowned artists Red and Buckcherry, twelve of the world’s top custom bike builders will engage in a fearless and gritty drag race competition. You’ll be able to watch as the builders pair off and race head to head in pursuit of the Baker Burnout Drags Champion Title.

Immediately following the Buckcherry concert at the Chip one lucky attendee will also have the opportunity to win a Sucker Punch Sally’s motorcycle courtesy of the Sucker Punch Sally’s and American Cycle Magazine the Legendary Buffalo Chip. The excitement then continues with the Buffalo Chip Group Burnout. Chipsters gathered from all over the world will be able to engage in adrenalin-pumping, rubber-burning burnout bliss. This year’s group burnout is sure to be a crowd-pleaser flaunting up to 100 bikes. The steel bridge along the Kinison Playground will be transformed into burnout central as bikes will be set 10 feet in the air and prepped for huge number of bikes smoking their rear tires.

The climax of this year’s group burnout will highlight a 1938 Indian Chief with sidecar, ridden and restored by prominent industry daredevil and foremost authority on Indian Motorcycles, Mike “Kiwi” Tomas. Kiwi Mike is the owner of Kiwi Indian and the leading authority on the restoration of old Indians. Originally from New Zealand, Kiwi Mike learned the tools of the trade early on. In 1988 he started Kiwi Indian in California and has become the dominant force in Indian parts and restoration.

The striking 1938 Indian Chief that Kiwi Mike will be riding was specifically chosen for this event to commemorate the year in which the Sturgis Rally first blazed onto the motorcycle scene. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to observe a 1938 Indian complete a burnout. This historic bike still has plenty of kick and will be a treat to watch as Kiwi Mike performs a number of bold maneuvers including two wheel stunts and circular burnouts. Owned by John Paul DiJoria, the Indian Chief will be placed on loan for exhibition to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame where it will be memorialized by enthusiasts for years to come.

Attendees are encouraged to participate in the Buffalo Chip group burnout. There will be T.V. cameras and numerous photographers documenting the spectacle in an attempt to capture the raw essence of the burnout. This footage will be provided to the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum for inclusion in the exhibit to pay homage to the event, which will undoubtedly be emblazoned in the memories of those who witness it.

Everybody loves a great burnout. Back and bigger than ever you won’t want to miss this year’s spectacle!
