Hot POLL action: where should I ride?

Now that I don’t have a full time job to go to every day I’ve been thinking about all the places that I want to ride to this year. We have some favorite East Coast rides that we do every year, but there are more and more rallies popping up that seem like lots of fun. Since the Myrtle Beach/New Bern rally is such a cluster F, I think there are other rallies that could be a blast; like Bike Week in New Orleans.

I think I’m going to write off Americade this year. We went last year, the weather is always stupid hot and humid, I hate camping and it’s kind of lacking in excitement. I will most likely hit the Laconia rally, as I do almost every year. While I spent the better part of a week up there the year before last, I think I’ll probably just go up for a day trip this year. Laconia is fun but sometimes the weather doesn’t co-operate and it typically pours the whole time.

My husband really wants to check out the Gettysburg rally. He’s fascinated with the history of the location and we’ve never been. Have any of you been and if so, what’s it like? And hey, bitchin’ Molly Hatchet is playing! Yeah.

Since I live on the East Coast, getting out to the Sturgis rally is always on the list to try to attend, but it’s such a logistical nightmare to drive 2K+ miles on I-90 that the thought of it makes me want to kill myself. But this year I’m GOING. We need to hammer out the details but it’s looking like it’s a definite GO.

So, I mentioned last week that some poll action would be coming up soon. Take a gander over there at the poll in the right column and pick a place that you guys think I should ride to this year. If there’s a rally not on the list that you absolutely think should be there, let me know!

I’m thinking of doing The Trail of Tears Ride. Of all the large rides out there to do, this one strikes me as the one that provides a good…REAL…ride. Not just a party…the Gettysburg runs a close second for me.

So I thought I would see if you had thought of the TOT ride…and if not, perhaps you would add it. I’d like to meet up with you and your man…and that or the Gettysburg would most likely be the venue, since I really hate rallies.

    My vote: Trail of Tears

My spring ride was a week in AZ – I hope you’ll enjoy the posts. I’m staying 4 blocks south of Main Street. I’ll see you in Sturgis. I should be the only guy in the Broken Spoke wearing a Blackstone Valley HOG rocker.

    The Horse Smokeout
    The June Bug Boogie
    Abate of Iowa Freedom Rally
    Cherokee Survivor Rally

All are good rides from your location and all are WILD parties.

Ooh! All of those are great suggestions! The TOT rally would be a big maybe, only because the weather here is so unpredictable that it could be *snowing* in Sept.

Joker, AZ sounds awesome. I can’t wait to go check out your posts.

Dean, I had considered the Smokeout. I’ll have to look into the other ones you mentioned because, I confess, I’ve never heard of them before!

    Thanks guys!

My vote is bike week in new orleans, mortalez is going there too because it attracts different types of riders since its not just one event going on there. 2 of my brothers who belong to a mostly latino/black MC are also going and there is talk of BBW=black bike week moving to new orleans next year( dont know if its just talk).
But I heard they want to time the new BBW to run at the same time as other rallies in the area so it would be harder(politically) to single out one group of riders.

  6. If you come to Gettysburg then you’ll be in our neck of the woods. Maybe we could meet you!

AZ Bike week is 3/27 – 4/5. I know it’s a hike for you, but there are a lot of great rides/parties that week. Wish Joker could have stayed for that!

I haven’t been to Laconia in years…but it was ALWAYS a great time! I’m a little jealous that you’re going and that you’re going to Sturgis. I will get to Mecca someday. :)

I think you should skip the rallys and just ride south until you hit the end of the keys. Stop in Delaware to say Hi! Let me know if you need any info on Gettysburg. I know one of the event organizers in charge. maybe I can get you some insider info.

  9. Lizzie says:

Oh man, I just want to ride EVERYWHERE! Maybe I should just ride south and hit a bunch of places along the way before ending up in the Keys! I haven’t been down there inj years and riding there would be awesome! Hmm, I think you’ve planted a seed, Jay!

  10. YAY…more people going to Sturgis!!! Hope to see you there. You’ll be able to find me at the Broken Spoke listening to Jasmine Cain and yacking it up with Joker and KT DID!

  11. Lizzie says:

Steph: you can bet your sweet bippy that I’ll be looking to hook up with you guys!

  12. Road Captain says:

    What is a sweet bippy?

  13. Lizzie says:

RC: BIPPY – A jocular euphemism for ass, as in “bet your (sweet) bippy) by Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In, an NBC-TV comedy series.

    :)
