Claire, thanks very much. I’m not so sure these days people think it’s “strange” to see a woman on a bike but maybe unexpected? I dunno. Sometimes I like the attention I receive and sometimes not.

Thanks everyone, I’m really glad you enjoyed this post. I have to admit that while I had heard of the Van Burens in my travels I didn’t really know much about them.

Doing the research about them was very enlightening and seeing pictures of them with those big smiles on their faces almost made me regret not knowing they’re incredible story long before now.

I’ve been checking out your blogs sporadically for the last couple of months (can’t remember now how I first came across it) and have really enjoyed all I’ve read, but this one prompted me to comment.

What a great piece of history to find out about. I caught the motorcycle bug b/c of an exboyfriend and have been saving to get my own since we split. The story of these women inspires me even more to get a bike and get out there on my own to explore what this country has to offer, especially on those less travelled roads.

I love reading about motorcycle history. I always think of myself riding back in those days but then I realize I’ve been accustomed to a comfy ride and I’d never make it on an old time bike.

And yes, I still do double-takes when I see a woman riding her own. (Mostly because it kinda turns me on!)
