Video Tuesday: Blood, sweat and gears

Posted by Lizzie on January 22nd, 2008

While Billy Lane still faces trial for charges of DUI manslaughter from the September 4th, 2006 fatal crash that killed Gerald Morelock, I thought it might be nice to remember happier times when the world was Billy’s oyster before this ill-fated incident. (If you’re interested in keeping up to date with news of the trial Brain Bucket Magazine is a pretty good resource.)

I always admired Billy’s style. His bikes stood out, in a sea of look-a-like, rolling cockroaches. I visited his shop in Melbourne, FL and was amazed how small it was! No million dollar water jet machines, or computer aided designs stations. He was old school in the true sense. He also has real old school issues and now is paying the price. I wish him the best and hope he can get his life back on track someday. -Crusty

Hey Crusty: I agree with you whole-heartedly. I met Billy at Myrtle Beach a few years ago and he couldn’t be a nicer, down to earth kind of guy. And his bikes are amazing for sure-how many builders do you see ripping-off, I mean, borrowing the idea of the hub-less wheel these days? It’s a shame that he let his lifestyle get the best of him and ruin what he has worked so hard to build. I do hope that he can bounce back someday.

At some point that kind of lifestyle will get you one way or another. I wish him the best.
