BikerorNot.com: bikers and social networking pt. deux

A few months ago I wrote a post about Bikerworlds and the growing popularity of social networking with bikers. Well, I just discovered another social networking site for the biker world called BikerorNot.com.

BikerOrNot.com Review

My initial observation is that this is a hybrid born of hotornot.com and MySpace in the sense that you can build profiles and have lots of friends (just like myspace) and you can rate people who have uploaded their images (just like HotorNot). Investigating the site a little more and it also begins to feel like a biker dating site as well. The biker community tends to be brimming with a lot of sexual energy and this site seems to be spilling over with it. Maybe it’s all the sexy pictures!

In reading the two entries on the BikerorNot blog I realize that this is also a fairly new (and totally customized) site to feed the need for online biker communities. It started in September 2006 and by late August 2007 they had upwards to 10,000 members, 4 million page views per month and 5,000 unique visitors per day. Impressive numbers by any standards.

I decided to add a profile on this site as well and if you’re curious to see what it’s all about, you can visit me at bikerornot.com/rippinkitten. Who knows? You may end up joining, too!

  11. Chessie says:

I joined BON back in early Jan. 08.
At first glance it was all as you said. But as the months wore on, I found it to be a lot less than stated. At least on the blogs end of the deal. Back biting, whining, bitching, mob mentality, and frankly…I find it less than appealing to see people bashing each other, and the only way they seem to know each other is through the blogs. I’ve seen some pretty contradictory blogging by people who are quite popular there, and I find it disfiguring to anyone who falls for the line of crap and defends or bashes anyone who starts a line of hate spewed shit there. And there are a lot of em. The bashing can go on for weeks, and at this point, I’ve seen it go on for a month. It’s sicking to see adults behave so badly. I quit the blogs, and return only for the friends who send me emails via BON.

  12. Lizzie says:

Hey Chessie- I have heard similar stories from other people about BoN. I don’t spend much time on the message boards but I find that kind of mentality to be true on a lot of sites. I frankly don’t have a ton of time to spend on community boards but I do use the site to keep track of friends and messages.

It’s too bad that people have to act that way, but lots of people with little lives use that kind of forum to act a way that they wouldn’t normally act in real life.

  13. Harley GIrl says:

I have been on BON for awhile and ridden with many of the people on there. I don’t get into the blogs, chats, etc.
It is a great way to find local people to ride with and find rides/runs to go on. There is something going on nearly every weekend.
We travel alot and have met people from other areas and ridden with them as well.

  14. Bonnie says:

I have been a member of BON since early in 2007 and made many wonderful friends. Some that I’ve met in person that will be life long friends. I’ve never had any bad experiences on the site and personally love it. I’ve got tons of friends that email me or message me on a daily basis. Granted there are those on my friend list that I NEVER hear from, but for the most part, my true friends remain in touch with me on a regular basis. And I firmly believe that if I needed anyone of them for any reason they would be there for me in a second. At least try it to find out your own personal feelings about it. If you don’t like it, just don’t go back.
I recommend BON highly to anyone, Biker or Not!
    I LOVE IT!

  15. Road Captain says:

I have not gone on BON but I met up with some BON riders by accident last weekend and they were great fun. New friends just like most of you have said. Read about my BON story at this link: http://roadcaptainusa.com/2008/12/06/the-little-smile-for-christmas-toy-run/

  16. Froggy says:

I’ve been on BoN since Feb of 2008, and love it!! I began in Indiana, and through the site I finally met my soulmate! Seapup lived 600 miles from me in Virginia, but took the time to fly up and meet me…and now here I am, going on 8 months later and we now live together in VA!!! I thank BoN for bringing us together, and a few of our friends have met their significant others through BoN as well. I am a proud East Coast BoN ReTard..a group born out of a rivalry with west coast riders, but continues on due to great friendship and camaraderie. My advice to anyone who joins..step gingerly, and take what some members say with a grain of salt.

  17. Buchi54 says:

I met my future husband on Bikerornot on 11/30/07 and we live 106 mile apart!

  18. Maria says:

I just want to say thank you for the web sight..I just meet a wonderful man in my life…If it wasnt for you guys I might of never got the chance to meet him..Thank you again…

  19. bb says:

The T&A is the only problem with BON.. They haven’t been able to control the muff and puff on the weekends….

  22. Freddy says:

I signed up with Bikerornot.com and created a profile. Within a few months I had a few friends, if you want to call them that, that I chat back and forth with and it’s fun in it’s place. Recently I decided to join in on the blogs. What a huge mistake that was. The blogs are infested with the usual web-vermin that take over most unmoderated forums on the web. Fighting, attacking others, and general rudeness characterize most of the bloggers on bikerornot.com. Within minutes of posting a comment on a blog I was attacked by others on the site. It seems to be how they pass their time. Bikerornot.com is ok, but I think most people would be better advised to find one of the better sites that cater to bikers with moderated forums and not such a hostile membership.
