Video Tuesday- Women bikers and local TV

Posted by Lizzie on July 31st, 2007

Often on Tuesday I’ll show some cool advertising video or lost video memory. This time it’s a segment from a local motorcycle television show called theride.tv.

I don’t know when or even if they are still on TV, but when I had a different schedule I used to watch the show on Tuesday afternoon.

It’s mostly a half hour ad for Paramount Harley Davidson in Worcester, MA. There were some good segments about riding locally, some how-to’s and even this little nugget.

Mistress Carrie is a local radio DJ and fellow female rider here in Boston. She’s also one of my friends on the Rippin-Kitten MySpace page.

Calling all wrenches - motorcycle rejet gone bad

Posted by Lizzie on July 26th, 2007

So the saga continues with my bike. I attempted a rejet and it just isn’t working right now. Here is the deal…

On my bike board some guys put together an extensive rejetting matrix for my bike which I followed. I bought a DynoJet rejet kit and a Uni filter. I did the rejet and it seemed pretty easy, so I fired it up and took it around the block. About half way it started to bog down and black smoke started pouring out the tailpipe.

My man helped me push it back home and we tore it down again. It looked fine but was obviously running too rich. I tried to lean it out a bit by moving the needle a notch. That didn’t work. Over the next couple of days we tore that down and rebuilt it about 20 times. Finally someone suggested that one of the super tiny o-rings in the carberator might be missing (or bad) so I went to the dealer and ordered another freaking o-ring. One week later it came in.

Last night I went back and again tore the carb down again, put the o-ring in and fired it up. After dialing in the idle I thought everything would be good, but when I put it in gear (while holding in the clutch) the idle dropped significantly, the bike sputtered and died complete with a small puff of black smoke coming out the tailpipe. (It was like a bad cartoon.) I pulled the spark plugs and they were black, so I know it’s still rich.

I don’t want to give up and have to bring it into the shop. Tons of people rejet their bikes all the time so I should be able to also. Right now I need some advice which is where you guys come in.

I still think it is running too rich so should I:

  1. move the needle down a notch
  2. change my pilot jet from 150 to something else - if so what?
  3. change my plugs
  4. pay someone to do it
  5. set the bike on fire and claim an “Act of God” to the insurance people

Seriously, I am at my wit’s end. Argggggggg!!!!!!!

Video Tuesday: Harley Davidson “Live by it” Creed

Posted by Lizzie on July 24th, 2007

Ok, so I don’t own a Harley Davidson. But that doesn’t mean that I can’t be impressed by their marketing and advertising, especially when I work in that field.

I literally got goosebumps when I watched the “Live by it” video and knew that I had to post it here because it doesn’t matter what kind of biker you are, this short video will speak to you in some capacity.

Head on over to the Harley Davidson website to see/learn about the creed film.

Step away from the computer…and grab your wrench!

It’s time to get off of the computer and attack this motorcycle again to fix the problem. I want to be out riding this weekend!

BlogCatalog Community Organ Donation Awareness Campaign

Posted by Lizzie on July 18th, 2007

Today I am blogging for a good cause: organ donation.

Motorcycling and organ donation are two things that almost seem to go hand in hand. I was an organ donor way before I learned how to ride a motorcycle, however I feel that with taking up a seemingly selfish (and often dangerous) pastime I owe it to the community to give back if something were to happen to me.

So as a member of BlogCatalog, we bloggers are sometimes asked to raise awareness of certain social issues. This month it’s about organ donation and the issues surrounding it. I didn’t realize that it was such a controversial issue for some people until a lot feedback on the subject came pouring in.

For me, it only seems like a logical choice: if you die, you can save other people with your organs. You can save families from pain of losing a loved one and for the recipient, you’re giving them a second chance.

Where I live (Massachusetts) it’s very easy to become an organ donor, we are presented the option at the registry of motor vehicles when we get/renew our licenses.

So, if you want to become an organ donor, visit:

Video Tuesday: Herbal Essence biker commercial

Posted by Lizzie on July 17th, 2007

I have to say that I was surprised and pleased when I saw this commercial on tv the other night. I always wondered why advertisers weren’t targeting the female biker audience. The numbers show that it’s an ever-growing group of consumers. Well, I guess this could be the start of something beautiful. Maybe in the near future women’s magazines will acknowledge female bikers in some of their articles. Hey, I can dream…

carb re-jetting: frustration plantation

Posted by Lizzie on July 16th, 2007

Ah yes, my motorcycle is still not up and running. Well, that’s not true. It runs (as in, I can get it started and it idles) but the minute I try to put it in gear it rides rough, bogs down, shoots out black smoke and then dies. That leads me to believe that it’s running too rich (getting too much gas).

Reading the VolusiaRiders board has been very helpful with advice and keeping me sane. I think I lost a little, bitty O-ring that everyone told me not to lose. That’s the only thing I can think of since we’ve ripped the bike apart fifty times to get at the carburetor it probably fell out at some point. That has to be it. So, today I ordered not one but two. They’ll be in on Thursday.

If all goes well I’ll be out riding this weekend, dammit.

Back on the information super-highway.

Posted by Lizzie on July 12th, 2007

I’m back online and ready to blog!

We finally got internet access into the new house last night. I know you’ve all missed my insightful and witty posts terribly. I could be like other motorcycle blogs and just regurgitate motorcycle news out at you, but I find that so…lazy. (If I want to read motorcycle news then I’ll just either add it to my RSS-feed or I’ll go to a biker news site.) Know what I mean?

So, my motorcycle is still out of commission. I’ve been mainly concentrating on moving and getting the place into a livable condition while my poor bike just sits pathetically there under it’s cover. I hope to remedy the situation this weekend since we’re in a pretty good place with the house. I don’t look forward to ripping everything apart again trying to figure out where I went wrong, but I need to get this thing running. There’s considerable riding time that I’m missing out on!

Wish me luck, ok?

Video Tuesday: “What you gon’ do with all that junk?”

Posted by Lizzie on July 10th, 2007

OK, well I’m exhausted from the move to the new house so I felt I needed some stupid humor to cheer me up. This definitely fits the bill for being overly silly!

I’ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
My hump, my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump,
My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely little lumps

Happy 4th of July!
