Video Tuesday: the Magnificent Six

Posted by Lizzie on June 26th, 2007

Back in 2002, the Discovery channel ran a documentary called “Motorcycle Women” which followed six ladies on a 1500 mile road-trip. Seeing those six ladies, featuring Goth Girl, Sasha Mullins, Betsy Huelskamp, Claudia Barasch, Michelle Dell and Qian Ma, inspired myself and many other women out there to learn how to ride and enjoy the freedom, respect and confidence that comes with it. I wish more television shows were dedicated to highlighting women riders.

This video is a follow-up from that documentary and shows the “Magnificent 6″ regrouping for another ride together.

Now I have to find the original film.
I know plenty of ladies who ride but it seems only in the last year or 3 that I actually see an even ratio of women riding to women on the back of bikes. though I still see slightly more women on the back of bikes than actually riding them. In fact last week I went to the park and saw some local biker club pulling in and maybe 1/3 of the ladies there were on their own bikes, but just a few years ago it would have been 1/8.

BTW did you know sasha mullins did another show for TLC(the learning channel) called “BIKER GIRLS: BORN TO BE WILD”

    this is the promo.
    —————————————————–
Blaze exciting new trails with America’s hottest, hippest, happiest freewheeling duo! Bikers Sasha Mullins and Vicki Gray are two attractive, single, funny outgoing young women with a penchant for true adventure. Experience the U.S. of A. like you never have before as our daring tour guides stumble upon the quirkiest, most interesting and irresistible sights, sounds, people, flavors, places and things while road tripping across America.

And since TLC is owned by the same parent company as the discovery channel its interesting that of all those girls they picked sasha to put back on tv, and they paired her up with a tall hot blond(no disrespect to vicky she is a female sportbike racer and has proven herself a biker).
But I feel as good as the show was, Discovery Communications attempt to bring a younger audiance,
you know, make another “Motorcycle Women” but this time only use the hot chick and find another to ride with her, you have to admit from a guys P.O.V they both represent the polar opposittes of the hot biker chick the city girl on the sportbike and the country girl on the cruiser.
    her is a photo.

And here is a link to sash’s blog.

Hmm, I’ve never even heard of that second show. It goes to show you-I’ve seen all of the “Motorcycle Manias” countless times and never even heard of that biker girls show.

    Thanks for the info!
