a few photos from Laconia 2009

This mostly falls in the category “better late than never” but we did a quick run up to Laconia bike week last weekend. And when I say quick, boy, I mean quick. The weather around here in New England has been less than cooperative. In fact, if you follow me on Twitter then you’ve heard me complain daily about how rainy it’s been. In fact, there have been only four sunny days here during the entire month of June.

Four.

So that morning, my man and I waffled about whether or not we should go (ok, it was really me that was waffling. He was going to go regardless) and headed on up. The weather was so sucky, that even though we went up rather early in the morning and planned to make a day of it, we had to cut the time in half to avoid riding in too much rain.

About half way there I realized that I forgot my camera (*sigh*), so he was nice enough to let me use some of his.

Protect your beautiful mind: Diesel Mowie helmet

Posted by Lizzie on June 15th, 2009

Diesel’s new motorcycle helmet, Diesel Mowie, is a really cool looking helmet to me. At first glance, it looks like a helmet that a fighter pilot might wear while flying an F-15 E. At closer inspection it looks down right sci-fi and badass.

Here’s what the promotions company has to say:
You’re a hotshot - you’re a maverick renegade, speeding through life to hell and back at up to 30 mph straight, 25 hours a day, 8 days a week.

Sure you’re having the time of your life; you’re young, ripe and so very supple - so you need highly styled head protection which comes in a fully branded shoulder bag in printed canvas of course.

Mowie is an advanced utility headwear with interchangeable visor, padded stitched ergonomic neck support, trademark Mohican crest, and truly exceptional robustness.

And it’s as hygienic as you are too! With hygienically treated, ultimate-comfort padding and a leather neck-roll made from fully removable for washing, parts can be replaced or cleaned with ease.

The micro-lock retention system allows quick and easy fastening/unfastening of the buckle to adjust to comfort.

The outer shell, in High Resistant Thermoplastic resin and 2 different sizes, allows the perfect fit no matter how big your head.

Plus the helmet is easily stored inside the space under the saddle of the majority of scooters on the market, and, coupled with drop down, clear, anti-scratch polycarbonate aviator visor (which offers 100% protection against UV rays) you’ll look like the top 1% of dogfighters on the planet no
matter how clumsy you ride, and that’s an empty promise we can keep.

Designed by the Diesel Creative Team, headed by Creative Director Wilbert Das, the unisex helmet is available in sizes XS to XL in the following colours: mat White, mat Black, mat Green and mat Bronze [RK: what, no pink??].

The helmet will be available at an average price of $250 in Diesel stores across the United States starting in the fall of 2009.

2nd annual Million Mile Monday

Posted by Lizzie on June 10th, 2009

The 2nd Annual Million Mile Monday will take place on Monday, June 29th, and is a day which encourages H.O.G. members to ride to reach this year’s goal of 5 million miles, exceeding last year’s accomplishment of 3 million miles.

It’s simple, just ride – ride to work, at lunch, around the block, or even take the whole day off to ride. Many will be using their return trip from CLUB H.O.G. OKC for their contribution. Non-H.O.G. members can join now, just in time for the event.

Participants worldwide can log on to http://members.hog.com to record their miles, read the blog, submit their photos, explore others’ photos, and more. Those who can’t ride can watch the progress of others with a virtual odometer which will be updated throughout the day on harley-davidson.com and hog.com.

Oh yes, it’s Ladies Night and the feeling’s intimidation-free

Posted by Lizzie on June 9th, 2009

The other day I was checking my inbox when I see an email about “Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley-Davidson Special Event.” Naturally I open that one to see what the special event is, which turns out to be one of those women-only garage parties that I’ve heard so much about.

I’m immediately turned off by the headline because it actually does say “SORRY FELLAS, THIS GARAGE IS FOR LADIES ONLY.” Blergh.

So I read through all of the information of the where’s and when’s of the event and it’s “intimidation-free zone” and there’s something else that’s bothering me about the email that I can’t quite pin down.

I show the email to my husband and he immediately reacts negatively, pointing to the photograph used in the email:

Yep. That would be what was bothering me.

Laconia Motorcycle Week 2009

Posted by Lizzie on June 4th, 2009

Wow, I some how lost track the calendar and this sort of snuck up on me. Bike week in Laconia, NH is almost upon us, happening June 13th-21st this year. For the majority of the country I would imagine this particular motorcycle rally is barely a blip on their radar, but for us New England riders it’s a milestone event for the summer.

Sure, our New England weather is typically true to form and is as unpredictable as ever during this week, 90 degree temperatures one day or cold and rainy the next. Actually, inevitably is almost always rains one of the weekends! But that’s part of the fun!

2009
This year the Broken Spoke Saloon in Laconia is stepping up their game a little bit with an East Coast vs. West Coast biker build-off between Paul Cox and Chica (which should be really interesting) and  Boston’s very own, multi-singer-kick-ass band, Bang Camaro, will be rocking everyone’s world the very first night.

So, who’s going this year? Sound off!
